An intense man named Walter Sobchak once said, “I’m talking about drawing a line in the sand, Dude. Across this line, you DO NOT…” . Walter got distracted and never got to finish his thought, but we can assume he was going the say “Across this line, you DO NOT CROSS”. Except sometimes, we do cross that line. And tonight’s show is all about what happens when we cross the line…and what the repercussions can be. Ladies and gentlemen! Once a year, we here at AGTV World Headquarters think back on the past ten years (!!) of amazing storytelling, and then we try and choose a half-dozen of our absolute favorite stories to present at our Best Of show. (These are tough choices to make; we have waaaaaay too many great stories to choose from.) This year’s Best Of show is going to be amazing. We’ve got six of our favorite storytellers lined up for this show. It happens at Theatre Off Jackson on Tuesday, November 29th. Doors open at 7 pm for an 8 pm show. As the days get shorter, darker, and colder, we here at AGTV World Headquarters start thinking about one things. Pumpkin pies and our annual Ghost Stories show on Tuesday, October 25th. (OK, two things.) Come hear a collection of first-person, true-ish stories about hauntings, unexplained phenomena, creepy events, and things that go bump in the night. There are times in life when it’s incredibly tempting to check up on someone else. To learn their secrets. To uncover what’s true and what’s a big bag of crazy lies. On soap operas, the truth always comes out and nobody has to do anything to help it along. But in real life, things aren’t that easy. And you have to undertake your own investigation.

On Tuesday, June 7th, A Guide To Visitors presents DETECTIVE STORIES. A hand-picked collection of stories about investigating and being investigated. This show, ladies and gentlemen, is not to be missed.

You can buy tickets in advance for 8 bucks, or pay at the door the night of the show for 10 bucks. Doors open at 7 pm for an 8 pm show. We’re Upstairs at Theatre Off Jackson, which is a 21+ space.

AGtV Presents: “Faking It” – 4.5.11

The acting teacher Constantin Stanislavski taught his students that physical action is inherently linked with emotion. And because of that link, actors can use physical actions to access emotions. For example, an actor may not feel sad, but she can hunch over and hold her head in her hands. And if she focuses on the physicality of crying, then soon enough, she’d actually feel sad enough to really cry. In other words, Stanislavski was a big proponent of “fake it till ya make it”.

AGtV presents true, first-person stories about faking it and the consequences of faking it (sadly, not everyone “makes it”). British poet John Lyly is credited with coining the phrase “All’s Fair In Love And War”. And it means the rules we all follow so we can swim along relatively peacefully in our lives do not apply in love or in war. Over the past 9 years, we here at AGTV have heard a lot of amazing stories. There is no way we can collect all that goodness and present it in one show. It would make everyone’s heads explode (including ours). BUT – we have brought back several of our favorite, most memorable stories (and storytellers!) for this special 9th anniversary celebration show. We couldn’t be more excited about this show.

Ladies and gentlemen! KUOW has started airing “A Guide To Visitors: Storytelling In Seattle”. It’s an 8-part show airing every Monday night at 8 pm on KUOW. The first hour (featuring the awesome Nick Morrison, Richard Green, Bridget Quigg, and Luke Burbank) aired on Labor Day; Hour 2 (featuring the awesome John Gastil, Willie Weir, Mary Rheaum, and Darcey Quinn) airs this coming Monday.
